ABOUT
The Wickliffe FastPitch League (WFL) was established in February 2014. Our primary mission is to provide all participants an enjoyable, safe, team oriented and community based experience while promoting good sportsmanship and learning to play fastpitch softball in a competitive environment. Our commitment is not only to teach softball, but to build character, self-confidence, and leadership in the young ladies of Western Lake County.
The WFL operates on the good will of its Volunteers.
Our organization is registered with the State of Ohio as a Non-Profit Corporation and is also an Approved 501(c)(3) with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
We welcome girls age 7 and older based on their age as of January 1st. If your child is under the age of 7 they may want to consider playing in the City of Wickliffe - Recreation Department - softball program. Visit www.CityOfWickliffe.com
DIVISIONS & LOCATIONS
8U is for girls 7-8 years of age. This is a combination of coach & player pitch division and is also referred to as the Pixie Division. It is geared towards learning the fundamentals of the game while playing against other teams. This division plays home games at Levi Lane Park - 1950 East 296th Street.
10U: is for girls 10 years of age and under as of Jan 1. This division begins the full time "PLAYER PITCH" games. Their home games are played at Orlando Park - 30100 Twin Lakes Drive.
12U: is for girls 12 years of age and under as of Jan 1. Home games are played at Coulby Park field - 28730 Ridge Road and Jindra Park field - 901 Talmadge Drive. Jindra Park is accesible from the Wickliffe Community Center - 900 Worden Road.
14U is for girls 14 years of age and under. Home game fields are Jindra Park - 901 Talmadge Drive and Coulby Park field - 28730 Ridge Road.
15+ is for girls 15 years of age and older. Home game fields are Jindra Park - 901 Talmadge Drive and Coulby Park field - 28730 Ridge Road.
REGISTRATION & DRAFT
Registration typically occurs February - Mid March. Mail-in, walk-in and Online registrations are announced on this web site and also the league Facebook page. Each team has a Manager and two (2) Coaches. We encourage parents and guardians of registered Players to get involved in the league and become Managers, Coach's or other volunteers. Every Manager and Coach will have a background check. Only Managers, Coaches and Scorekeepers are permitted on the field and in the dugouts with the Players.
Team DRAFTS occur in early April to allow enough time for team uniforms to be purchased and arrive on time for Opening Day. Parents / Players will be notified of their team assignment by their team Manager.
OPENING DAY & SPLASH PARTY
Opening Day is when team and individual pictures are taken. The WFL Players and Members, often together with the Wickliffe Baseball League, gather for a fun day of activities which are announced on this web site and the Facebook page. The season generally begins in early to mid May for the girls 12 and under. However, OSHAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) rules prohibit girls on school teams from participating on non-school teams in the same sport during the school team's season. Therefore, girls on 12U and older teams may start having practices without girls playing on school teams and their season will start as soon as possible following the school softball season.
Teams currently compete in the Willoughby Baseball League (WBL) and play against other local area teams who are also members of the WBL. To learn more about the WBL, please click here WBL Web Site WBL division rules and team schedules will be posted at the WBL website.
The Wickliffe FastPitch League also hosts a splash party at Coubly Aquatic Center each year for WFL registered Players and their families. This usually takes place in Late June to early July.
